Working with world renowned Japanese garden designer, Hoichi Kurisu, Studio Sprout, formerly known as Roy-Fisher Associates, created 17 acres of award winning Japanese gardens as the prime Landscape Architect. The gardens stroll through history, exploring periods of Japanese thought and culture, adapted to the south Florida environment. Mr. Kurisu named the gardens Roen-ji: Garden of the Drops of Dew to call attention to the gardens’ ability to restore, reinvigorate and renew. The gardens opened in the year 2000, welcoming the new millennium with a physical design that encourages new ways of thinking about our place in time and space. The gardens were the site of a published study by Dr. Ruth McCaffrey which showed the benefits of garden walking on elders affected by depression.
