NSA Bethesda – Wounded Warrior Subarea Plan Design Guide

Can environmental conditions promote optimal resilience after deployment? A design guide prepared by Studio Sprout in collaboration with the Louis Berger Group, Inc. provides a positive answer and methodologies for the most favorable environmental design for soldiers recovering from traumatic brain injuries, post traumatic stress disorder and polytrauma.

The guidelines are based on the best available research, surveys and focus groups with Wounded Warriors, their families, clinical staff, facility staff and clergy as well as interviews and investigations of a variety of places and programs striving to promote health and wellness of returning Wounded Warriors. Resulting products included a literature review of close to sixty sources, survey and focus group analysis, and a forty page document outlining physical attributes of environments that foster a Wounded Warrior’s resources to recover and grow in the face of often unremitting physical and psychological challenges.
