This family wanted to preserve their home’s comfortable scale and unique architecture while providing more room for a growing flock of grandchildren. Instead of adding onto the original structure, the owner decided to build a guest house and a separate garage with an apartment and exercise room. With limited space, the placement of the three structures required careful consideration of each view and the interconnection of garden spaces.
In front of the home, the living room views a colorful butterfly garden and birdbath. A woodland water garden softens the garage facade from the guest cottage while providing a cool and quiet respite. The private pool area welcomes outdoor dining and offers pleasant views from the garage’s exercise room. Potted plants overflow with color in front of a backdrop of textured green.
